BURNING EARTH
Solar-powered video projection - Nelson’s Column, London
Nelson’s Column, a memorial to bloody warfare, became a warning to the present, a smoking tree stump solar-powered by panels feeding into batteries on-site. The image lasted until the projector had used all the energy gathered that afternoon in the batteries. Initiated and coproduced by me for the Extinction Rebellion (XR) climate protests (Oct 19).
This project was part of XR Hackney’s Burning Earth climate protests at Trafalgar Square, designed to highlight the destruction of the natural world through human activity. Many people contribute including Nova Dando and colleagues (animation) and numerous AV techs, electricians, and others volunteering for @xrhackney, @xr.haringey, and @xrbristol.
