One Man Show
Graduate Show, Chelsea College of Art and Design.
Exploring aspects of identity construction and performance, this multi-media presentation incorporates three looped videos projected onto mirrors collected by the artist from late 00s pub refurbs. In Bleaching Martin's Hair (2007) the artist dyes a fellow student’s hair blonde in real-time, the entire process of transformation documented from start to finish. In One Man Show (2007)--the video from which the presentation takes its name-- an appropriated Grace Jones video sampler in which Jones is seen performing in various live shows and music videos is projected onto a round hairdressing mirror, dispersing it in geometric slices across the walls. London College of Fashion (2007) is made in this London design school's library. Shot from the elevated perspectives of the library's surveillance cameras, the video cuts between shots, mimicking the automated edits of the cctv monitor, a constant rotation of scenes where students perform as themselves, reading books and magazines, and photocopying and guillotining reference materials.
